    Default Cheyenne Lodge...... Colorado Springs??

The previous owner of this item says that it was from the Cheyenne Lodge located at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs CO. I think they might have been mixed up, because best I can tell, the Cheyenne Lodge is a very new addition to the Broadmoor. BUT, there was a Cheyenne Lodge very close to the Broadmoor (on the moutain above it actually) so I am thinking that this may be where this piece is from. Anyone have any knowledge on this? Thanks!

    Oh, its Syracuse China!

Great teapot, Jackie! I've got a Broadmoor Matchstand. Sorry I don't know anything about the Cheyenne, but will check it out.

Jackie, the only thing I've got is a Cheyenne Hotel in Colorado Springd, 4 1/2 E. Pikes Peak Ave. (sounds like something from Harry Potter with that address). 45 rooms, listed from at least 1940 to 1956 in the Hotel Red Book, not listed in 1930.

    Haven't found a Cheyenne Lodge.

David, no need to look in the HRBs, I think. I googled it and found great postcards on ebay, and I don't think it had lodging -- in spite of the name.

I dunno, the one on the Cheyenne Broadmoor Hwy sure looks to me like it has rooms. It's awfully large for just a restaurant. The definitely was a Cheyenne Lodge in Co Springs at the other end of the same hwy from the Broadmoor.

This is the postcard that I found most compelling to believe that this location at the top of the mountain had no lodging.

    Jackie,

I have the demi c & s from Cheyenne Lodge, d/c 9-ff. Cheyenne Lodge is actually an old part of the Broadmoor that was used for entertainment and dining. Looking like an Indian Pueblo, it was located above the Broadmoor. It feel into disrepair, and has recently had a major Mary Kay done on it! I've just been beating myself over the head looking for the info I dug up on the place but can't find it anywhere, and refuse to beat myself up over it!!

But you are right that it sounds like it is new (re-done) and is a part of the Broadmoor.

When I calm down I will see what I can find my info...........

Dick, what you are saying fits better with what the previous owner said. But this is the bit that made me think the lodge was brand new to the broadmoor

year 2002: BROADMOOR Main Building opens after a total restoration and renovation of the original buildings. Original artwork is restored on ceilings and walls; two guest elevators are added; rooms are redesigned with five-fixture baths and a host of state-of-the-art services and amenities. Former Mountain Course club building reopens as Cheyenne Lodge with spectacular vistas for private functions.

Can I take it, from what you've said, that you've confirmed this particular piece as being from the Cheyenne Lodge is CO springs?

Now that you mention the Cheyenne Lodge is to be used for private functions, that is what the original Lodge was used for. It was part of the Broadmoor, fell into disrepair (they might have converted it to part of the one of the golf courses) but brought it back again!!

Cheyenne Lodge has nothing to do with the Cheyenne Hotel, it is/was part of the Broadmoor!

I will come up with the info I found and post it when I find it. BTW - that's a mighty find looking teapot you got there!! What is the date code???

Dick, do you then dismiss the Cheyenne Lodge that was located at the top of the mountain and was not part of the Broadmoor below?

I was interpreting the postcard I cited as being a unique locale with dining opportunities -- but no lodging -- and wondered if the Broadmoor used the Cheyenne Lodge's name -- probably long closed -- when it updated its facilities.

    datecode 11FF = 1951

I'm confused now too. Clearly the Broadmoor was at the bottom of the mountain and the Cheyenne Lodge was at the top...... so, the Broadmoor owned it and it was part of it, but they weren't located on the same property? Just trying to get a clear picture here.

I see what you mean Susan about the Lodge not having lodging and agree with your assessment. I also figured the same as you, that the Broadmoor took the lodge name when it revamped...... and if they owned it, that would make sense.

    Check out this link.

    This is what it says:'

QUESTION: Someone once told me that there used to be a hotel on top of Cheyenne Mountain in the early 1900's and I was wondering if this was true or not.

    - Joseph Spencer, Colorado Springs

True. Spencer Penrose of The Broadmoor hotel fame built a toll road up Cheyenne Mountain in 1925 so that people could gaze down on his hotel complex. Area residents objected to him scarring the mountain for what they considered a self-serving motive so he built a spectacular pueblo-style lodge at the top.

Cheyenne Lodge was popular with honeymooners and tourists but also was open to residents for summer lunches and accommodations until it was torn down in 1956. In 1999 The Broadmoor announced possible plans for a $1.5 million log-and-stone retreat for resort guests on Cheyenne Mountain.

Ok, so it did have lodging. But how was it connected to the Broadmoor, I guess that is still the question that remains?

Jackie, if I read Susan's post correctly, they were built by the same guy.
