Default Sterling Vinoy Park Hotel, St. Pete, Florida Plate

    Good Afternoon,

Today I went to the local drive in theatre flea market, looking for stock for my booth at the antique store. Found a neat 9 3/4" dinner plate by Sterling (M-9 = Oct. to Dec. 1978 date code) with a white bodied blue decoration with an image of the Vinoy Park Hotel (in St. Pete, Fl.) and a grassy looking border. When I searched the ID pages here I found an Alsonett Hotels plate with a similar border treatment. I searched google images and confirmed that this is indeed the Vinoy Park Hotel. The dealer had printed out an image also.

Does anyone have any more information?

Will try to post a photo later on today.

    TIA!
    Jeff

    Default Thanks Paul!

    Paul,

    Thanks for the help.

I was only able to open two of your links, but believe I found them from the links that did open. My piece is much more simple. Just the image of the hotel at the top of the plate with the grassy border (like the Alsonett Hotels plate).

The dating for 1978 seems odd, as the hotel closed in the earlier 1970's and didn't reopen until 1992. Could be old stock for the body after the reopening, I suppose. There's no name on the plate, jusat the image

    Default Vinoy Park Hotel China

    Good Afternoon again,

I searched ebay, Ruby Lane, and the Tias Stores for Vinoy Park Hotel and only come up with post cards and paper ads, no china.

Any other ideas? I'm looking for a starting price on this plate, I only paid $3.00. (I know we don't offer values here.) But I just have no idea where to price this plate. I know it will appeal to Florida & St. Pete collectors as well as RW collectors.

    TIA!
    Jeff

doesn't really matter as much where you start it, if there is interest and visibility, you'll get it back and more. Start at $2.99!

    Default Thanks!

    Paul & Matt,

Thanks for the assistance! These patterns are fancier than on my plate. The 1978 dating still seems odd, but it seems correct for the b/s.

I plan to sell this in my booth at the antique store, not on ebay.

I'm going to try to post photos shortly.

The hotel was put on the national historic register on September 11, 1978. I wonder if this plate was made for a fundraiser dinner?

    Paul,

Thanks for all of your help with this.

The fund raiser dinner might just explain the dating for while the hotel was closed. But it has definately been used, there are a few scratches in the well.

I'm going to hold off on taking this to the store, in hopes of finding more information.
