could the "M" stand for "Methodist" ?
I think St Mary's is a pretty good guess. But how you would ever match it up to the zillions of St Mary's out there, well, it would just be a lucky thing, IMO.

or "St. Michael's". Could be a bunch of places. It brings to mind a church here in Richmond - Centenary United Methodist Church - which still uses Carr China in the "Dayton" pattern as well as Shenango in the "Leaves" pattern - and mixed in are pieces with a diamond-shaped monogram of "CMC", made by Shenango. I'd bet that the "CMC" monogram could have been used anywhere.
Then there's St Mary's College, too.

Thought the logo shown upper left might be an updated version of the one on your plate.

I think you got it Lisa!
OK, you're right, I was considering the layout of the two letters, the stylized cross, it all screamed 1970s to me....
It certainly is worth checking out more because I do see what you are seeing. I tried to find a previous logo for them but did not locate one. Hopefully something will turn up on ebay that could verify it.
