Earlier Shenango is
occasionally date coded with a single or double digit number (dash)
double-digit number. The first single or double digit represents January
through December. "1" is January and "12" is December.
The second set of double digit numbers after the dash represent the year so
"26" might represent 1926. It is unclear when they started dating
the earlier wares so although the chart starts at 1901, the first 20 years
may be incorrect. In 1950, Shenango used a letter (dash) double-digit number
code. The letter represents the first half or the second half of the year it
was produced and the number represents the year. The number code could have
started in 1943 with "1" though that cannot be verified so use
extreme caution when date coding pieces in the 1940s. Starting in 1990 there
may be a different code used, a number (dash) letter code. The number
starting at 1 for 1990 and a letter code for the first half or second half.
From 1992 to date, pieces may be marked with a four-digit code representing
the actual year.
